Falling in Love with Sydney

The Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge are two of my most favorite things in the world right now. It never ceases to awe me whenever I am brought before these two magnificent landmarks. They are truly beautiful works of art.

When my family was applying to migrate to Australia, I found a picture of the Sydney Opera House over the internet. It was not very nice, was actually of poor quality, but I needed an image of Australia in order to visualize what we wanted to achieve. And so, I posted this quite mediocre picture of the Opera House as the wallpaper on my computer.

Last October, when me, Edge and the two kids finally got to meet the Opera House in person, I could not contain my excitement. It was as if I was meeting my crush after long years of waiting. And, much the same way I would react to finally meeting my crush in person, I was dumbstruck, left with my tongue hanging out of my mouth. I whispered to my husband, "We're finally here."

It was as if I couldn't say I was actually in Sydney if I did not yet pay homage to the Opera House. So of course, we all took turns taking our picture with the Opera House in the background. Diego, who was 5 then, said, "Mama, that's the picture in our computer in the Phi-la-ppines!" Visualization actually works!

But I fell in love with still another figure -- the Harbour Bridge. And some time after paying homage to the Opera House, when we crossed the Harbour Bridge to get to Luna Park, again, my tongue was hanging out of my mouth. Beautiful. It's simply beautiful.

And one day before I die, I will climb to the top of the Harbour Bridge. Edge has promised me that next year, on the occasion of our tenth wedding anniversary, we will climb the bridge together. It does seem like a fitting symbol to the adventures that Edge and I have been through for the past 14 years of our love and friendship.

We can say, we're finally here!
